Launch Event Discussion
The discussion was just getting started when we ran out of time on Wednesday evening, here's the chance to keep it going. There were very interesting points raised on training, morals, truth, danger and a number of areas affecting young people working and interested in television.

I think that at the moment there's a very wide gap between what the industry think would help 20-somethings and what the 20-somethings want and this gap will only decrease if there is a dialogue - thankfully now there is! I think the panel had a hard time on Wed night - they didn't really have much direction from us because it's such a new thing but hopefully we can start to see what people really want and tailor discussions to this. I did find much of what they said patronising and felt it was more geared towards first jobbers or people trying to break in rather than people establishing and navigating their careers. Apologies for soapboax moment but I think it's great we have this forum now! |

It'd be good if it didnt start an hour and a half later than advertised. Not everyone lives in London. |

I would have liked to know whether Chris Tarrant considered legal action when he saw his oily, half-crazed, father-of-Chucky wax work. |

Discussion seemed to be centred on career progression and opportunities for young people starting out in the industry. While this is useful, I felt the angle was wrong and there should have been more focus on the way things are changing: e.g. introduction of digital means more channels, fragmented audiences and ultimately more jobs. Whether or not the talent pool is being diluted by this is another debate. Oh,and there should have been more media-degree-bashing. Despite that, I think it was a really positive experience and a great launch. I look forward to more events in the future! |
